MGB RESTORATION - GUEST BOOK

Most good workshop manuals cover repair and maintenance but do not go into any depth on bodywork restoration.  This web site sets out to show methods of carrying out various stages in the restoration of an MGB.  Visitors are welcome to post their views on the content of this site in this Guest Book. A posting does not require membership or registration. Comments and suggestions can be posted to the Guest Book by following the link.

This is the best site I have seen, I have just reskinned my doors and I am about to start to take the car apart as it needs all the usual bady panels replacing. I am reluctant to start as it is cold in the guarage, also I enjoy driving the car and once I start I can see it will be off the road for some time. I would be pleased to here from anyone in my part of the world who is takling a similar project. Don.

I wish to change the existing dynamo for an alternator and as this requires a change of polarity to the vehicle it is beyond my capabilities and time available. Can anyone recomend an electrical specialist in Surrey,Kent or South London to do this job for me please? Thanks - great and very useful website

Wow...and thank you...what a find this site is! I have a 66 MGB in the garage (for 14 years or so) that an older brother left to me when he died of cancer at 36. I drove the car as a 15-16 year old and have very found memories of it. This will help alot. I am currently seeking a restoration shop to do some body work and rewire it.(wiring harness is melted together) Jim Allred Imperial, Missouri, USA

I just recently replace my wiring harness with one manaufactured in the UK, Original OEM Cloth covered loom. In the process of acquring a new Aluminum bonnet, as mine got crunched just yesterday (long story). I've had this car since it was 10 years old, I was 16 when I bought it. Had some essential body work done way back then. Needs to be done again, most notably as seen here the inner and outer sills. When this car was originally repaired -- body parts were only available from British Leyland and were very expensive to a teenager. You are fortunate being in Missouri, as Long Motors (Victoria British), is close by in Lenexa Kansas. I'm sure they or the local MG Club can point you at a reputable body man in your area. Just starting to work on a 1953 MGTD that I picked up a few years back, once it's driveable, then the MGB will get a proper restoration. As rough as it is it's great fun to drive. Good Luck, and drop me a line if you have any questions.

Hi,I would like to ask the question, does anyone have a Roadster or an MGB for sale,I am looking for a car that is in need of restoration or part restoration. I have restored a MGB 10 years ago,but due to illness I had to sell the vehicle,I feel that I am able to do another restoration, although it would take a longer period of time, and would love to obtain another car. If the car has already had part restoration work carried out this is alright, this would allow me to continue to work on the car in other areas of restoration. Please reply,I live in Sheffield, and I would appreciate your feedback. Thankyou Paul

I have just got a MGB GT 1977 .The trouble is when starting from cold it starts ok push choke in so it runs at approx 1300revs runs OK BUT after a minute or so revs start dropping then i loose a plug usually no3.If i take the plugs out and clean them or leave it a few mins it will start and idle ok.I have checked tappets, done a full carb syncro and tune, compressions are all 150psi and dont go up more than 5psi with wet test in fact a bill for rebore new pistons, crank regrind with car done less than 15000 miles ago,New distributor with all new components set dwell angle and checked both vacuum advance and centrifugal advance, new leads, plugs, sportcoil new, battery new,NO overheating even when hot no coolant loss brand new exhaust i am a engineer by trade and have another mgb of the same year and pride myself in being able to sort anything out on the older cars but i will admit cannot beat this one any one any ideas.Oh the only other thing i have noticed that when the electric cooling fan comes in it pulls the idle speed down to under 500 revs checked fan spins freely checked earth and alterator charging battery ok any one any ideas Tony t_basham@hotmail.com
