This is the beginning of a new project car restoration (October
2010). In a change
from MGBs an MGA has
been selected. The MGA is the predecessor of the MGB and is
mechanically similar. However,
it is a different challenge in that it was the last MG sports car to
be produced with a separate chassis. This MGA, a 1959 1600 Mk1, was originally a left hand
drive car exported to the USA and was brought back to the UK from
Texas in the early nineteen nineties.
It has been converted to right hand drive and some restoration work has already been carried out by a previous
owner which should make the restoration easier. Below are some
pictures of the car at the outset. More pictures and
descriptions of the work will be added as the restoration
progresses.

Appearances can be deceptive! The front wings had not been
fitted and the wings/door/sill alignment was not right. to
rectify this the doors will be re-skinned, the sills will be
replaced and the lower sections of the front and rear wings
will also be replaced.
An MGB 1800 engine had been fitted and this will
be replaced with an MGA 1600 unit.
Already converted to right hand drive for the UK. Only thing
remaining to be converted is the window wipers. They park on
the left for LHD cars and on the right for RHD cars.
